Lifestyle Changes That Can Heal Your Thyroid

Hypothyroidism is reaching epidemic proportions in the U.S. While the drug companies rack in the profits from synthesized thyroid hormones, the medical community ignores the obvious. While some thyroids are so damaged they cannot be completely healed, many hypothyroid patients can still benefit from changes to your diet and lifestyle.
Avoid Soy Like the Plague
Soy is in so many of our foods, from vegetable oil to pork-and-beans. It is also touted as a cure-all for menopause-related symptoms. The problem is that soy is toxic to your thyroid. A study published in 2011 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism concluded that daily doses of 16 mg of soy phytoestrogens increase the risk of hypothyroidism 300 percent. To avoid soy, you must read labels, because it is in most processed foods, especially vegan foods.
Get Rid of the Fluoride
Fluoride is in your water, your toothpaste, and believe it or not, in many of your processed foods. According to studies, fluoride is disruptive to the endocrine system, which includes your thyroid. In 2011, the CDC admitted that 2 in every 5 children in America show signs of fluoride poisoning and reduced the allowable levels of fluoride in drinking water. In 2014, the FDA put a warning on toothpaste because of fluoride. It is the main ingredient in rat poison. What more proof do you need to get it out of your life?
Stop Consuming Bromides and Bromines
According to a 1996 study, bromines replace iodine in your thyroid. Your thyroid cannot function properly without iodine. Bromines hide in plain site in many consumer products. Potassium bromate is found in all commercially baked breads and some flours. Vegetable oil is brominated, as are several soft drinks. Methyl Bromide is a pesticide used predominantly on strawberries from California. It doesn’t matter if you take iodine into your body if you also take bromide and bromine in, because the iodine will never reach your thyroid.
Use Iodine Supplements
While there is controversy over how much iodine our body needs and how we should supply it, there is no argument that iodine is a vital nutrient, and that most people don’t get enough of it. Everything you need to know about iodine supplementation is found in the links at the end of the article.
Hypothyroidism is a serious disease that can lead to a lifetime of misery. Synthetic hormones only go so far, and dosage is difficult to regulate. The changes above may seem drastic, but would you make them if someone told you they would cure your depression, chronic fatigue or memory problems, which are all symptoms of hypothyroidism? I think many of us would.
